"Awhile" is one word?

Genius! Whoever made the English language deserves a delicious, delicious Mountain Dew slushy.

Which, remember when we used to mix all the slushy flavors together down at the ol' Stop-2-Shop, creating the vaunted "Suicide"? ...Only to realize that all slushy flavors taste essentially the same, a realization that was the was the first touchy step down the disenchanting slip-n-slide to our present, American Eagle clad, anti-perspirant coated state?

Yeah, me neither. Collars up, people. Collars up.

That people forget their roots, y'know, their innocence. Nostalgia is a good thing--it's the conservative impulse--a love of the past just because it's the past.

But slowly the mystery and the innocence dies. Not just dies--but is forgotten or scorned. Nostalgia is immaturity after all, wistfullness and useleness.

Anymore, people don't just grow up: they strangle their former selves with an Abercrombie tote bag, leave their obits in the footnote to a xanga post. They become more worldly, I suppose, to use the most neutral adjective I can find.

It's reductionism and hubris, man--hey, what the hell, it's all just corn syrup in the end, right?
